The Purpose of “Mini” Websites

Posted on 04 March 2010 by jasonverdelli

How many of you have heard of the term “Mini Sites”? For those that haven’t “Mini Sites” is a terms that describes a single website (usually one page) that serves only one purpose and is usually tied into an overall bigger picture. Mini websites can be great if you are sitting there an wondering about how to generate more leads without having to make multiple changes to your website or even pay someone to do it. Take one thing in your business right now that you are looking to grow. Maybe you are trying to sell a physical product along with your services (i.e. video’s, etc). Take what you are trying to promote outside of your everyday “norm” and consider a Mini Site. The reason why Mini Sites can be more effective for you is that you can “un-clutter” your message or sales pitch to your audience while also being able to track your web stats closer. Think of it as a flyer that you get at the super market. The flyer doesn’t have everything on it, only the products that they are trying to really move off of the shelves.

One easy way to get a Mini Site setup can be by using a “self-hosted” version of Wordpress. Using inexpensive hosting services such as Host Gator will allow you to easily install Wordpress. Next think of a domain name for your Mini Site. You want to choose a “descriptive” domain name that gives the audience an idea of what to expect before they enter or even decide to go to the website. Once you have decided on a domain name and a hosting account through Host Gator you will want to go to “Fantastico” within the Host Gator control panel to install Wordpress. Once you have done this you will be able to access your site by just typing in the domain name. You can access the site admin by putting “/wp-admin” behind the domain name. From there you can install themes to customize your Wordpress website. The reason why I like choosing Wordpress for something like this is how easy it is to update the site. Everything is setup in a content management format so you can see what will go live before you hit “publish” on any of the pages.

This is just one quick way to get a Mini Site up and running quickly. From there you are off to the races. So again, consider a Mini Site if you are planning on promoting one specific product, service or aspect about your business.
